Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division was founded in 1963 as the Naval Ship Missile Systems Engineering Station. It is one of the Navy's Centers of Excellence for its in-service engineering, test and evaluation, and integrated logistics support for surface warfare combat and weapons systems. It is under the command of NAVSEA.

The Port Hueneme Division is currently working on the Next Generation In-Service Engineering project which will consist of a direct connection to the Fleet for 24-hour access to products, services, and support. The project will help to predict system failures and be able to then correct them in real-time.
